Widely considered one of the world’s most influential living artists, for over fifty years, Gerhard Richter has exhibited a remarkable command of many art forms, most notably painting. As the first major exhibition of Richter’s works in Australia, Brisbane’s Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA) exclusively presents ‘Gerhard Richter: The Life of Images’. With works from both major public, and private collections across the globe — including Richter’s own private collection — the exhibition profiles the artist’s influential practice which both rejected and embraced tradition, while confirming painting’s mystery and durability as an art form.
A note from UAP Principal | Senior Curator, Natasha Smith on UAP’s partnership with GOMA for the exhibition.
At UAP, creativity and art are part of our DNA. Championing great artists and enabling public art experiences are what we love and what we do best. Through creative exploration and enabling the act of art making, great ideas take shape.
As a Major Partner of the Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art, UAP is proud to support QAGOMA in this first comprehensive exhibition of Gerhard Richter’s works staged in Australia. As a Queensland founded company (founded by Brisbane-based brothers, Daniel and Matthew Tobin), UAP takes great pride in playing a role in assisting the Gallery to bring a celebration of one of the world’s most successful, influential and living artists to GOMA audiences.
The sheer diversity of Richter’s oeuvre offers a rich palette from which Exhibition Curator Dr Rosemary Hawker, Senior Lecturer in Fine Art, Griffith University and QAGOMA Curator Geraldine Kirrihi Barlow, Curatorial Manager, International Art, have composed this visceral and truly engaging exhibition.
Richter is known to have said (that) ‘Art should be serious…’ and at UAP, we share this view. As creatives, explorers and makers, art for UAP is serious business – it is our passion and we are passionate about making it, sharing it and supporting it.
UAP is thrilled to be a Major Partner of this significant exhibition and we trust you, your families and friends will all delight in ‘Gerhard Richter: The Life of Images’.
