Public Art Strategy
Queen’s Wharf Brisbane will become a hub that connects the defining parts of the City of Brisbane – the Botanic Gardens, the Queen Street Mall, the Cultural Precinct, South Bank, the Parliamentary Precinct and the Brisbane River. Featuring a new casino and a hospitality and residential precinct, the development will redefine the northern bank of the River, activate the CBD and connect pedestrians directly to South Bank by bridge.
UAP STUDIO, as part of the Destination Brisbane Consortium (DBC) Design Team, developed Promise of the Sun: Spirit, Brilliance, Optimism, a site-specific Curatorial Vision created to direct the commissioning of artwork across the site’s vast public realm – the equivalent size of approximately 12 football fields once completed.
Promise of the Sun inspires the delivery of an innovative and destination-making public art program for Queen’s Wharf, where artworks will take shape in a vibrant array of creative forms, mediums, and scale. Underpinned by three thematic drivers, ‘Spirit, ‘Brilliance’, and ‘Optimism’, this dynamic, curated public art program brings the promise of public art which will serve as a visual reflector of place, evoking qualities from Brisbane’s abundant subtropical environment, unique all-year-round sun-drenched climate, liveable river-city lifestyle, and the spirit of the people lucky enough to call this place home. Focusing on interactive, dynamic and inclusive works, the program will create exciting and engaging spaces for residents, workers and visitors alike, adding meaning and vibrancy to life in the city.
