King George Square

A contemporary water feature runs along the northern edge of King George Square in Brisbane, Australia. Situated at the hub of Brisbane’s CBD, the square is a resting place and transit zone, traversed day and night by people from all walks of city life.

The fountain’s surface uses a tessellating pattern originally derived from paper-folding, repeated along the 17-metre length of the fountain and finishes with a custom-designed grille at the end of the square. This design shapes the surface of the water as it flows over the pre-cast concrete forms beneath, a subtle reference to the ordered geometry of city streets contrasted with the organic flow of people passing through.
