Nike Savvas

Nike Savvas is an acclaimed artist based in Gadigal Country, Sydney. Her work is characterized by a dynamic play of colour, light and movement. Savvas’ artwork, described by the artist as paintings outside of frames, are immersive and experiential. Conceptually grounded, they draw inspiration from both personal and political subjects, including memory, heritage and the body. Her objects and installations often invite the viewer to partake in the active experience of her work, by physically shifting, repositioning and refocusing their gaze to unveil ever-changing facets to the works

A kaleidoscope of radiant light, space, and colour - mesmerising and interactive, this work offers luminous portals into other worlds. From the microscopic to the cosmic, these coloured windows invite viewers to engage deeply with their own perception, connecting the body to both place and the universe through immersive encounters with colour.

Abstraction and colour - timeless, inclusive, and universal, form the core of this experience. Soft, glowing tones envelop the viewer, fostering a sense of unity that transcends age, culture, education and geography.

At its heart, the work draws on the rainbow as a powerful symbol of confidence and optimism. Often appearing after a storm, the rainbow is a beacon of hope, promise and connection - representing beauty, transformation, and the enduring bonds of love and friendship.

Circles of colour in vinyl, echoing the palette of the atrium installation, stretch horizontally across this wide wall. They serve in part as a colour key to the atrium work. The quotes within this artwork were gathered through workshops with children, who shared what different colours represent to them. Viewers are invited to read and reflect on these responses - considering their own emotional and personal connections to colour. From here, they can move toward the suspended installation, fostering a deeper relationship between the two works.
