Janine Antoni

Janine Antoni

Janine Antoni is an artist whose practice explores the body as both a tool and a source of meaning. Blending sculpture, performance, and installation, her work often involves intimate, everyday actions such as bathing, sleeping, or eating to transform unconventional materials like chocolate, soap, and stone into poetic, sensory experiences. Antoni’s process-driven approach highlights the physicality of making and invites viewers to connect through their own bodies and emotions.

Since earning her MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1989, Antoni has exhibited extensively at major institutions and biennials worldwide. Her work is held in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum, the Guggenheim, and other notable institutions. Whether carving granite or staging performances, Antoni’s work consistently blurs the line between self and object, gesture and artifact—creating spaces for vulnerability, connection, and reflection.
