#4 Rabbits Thinking About Carrots, The Sun and The Moon
WUHAN, CHINA
Dutch artist Tom Claassen has been making and creating art for more than 25 years. His practice is firmly rooted in the sculpture tradition and interacts with the borders between culture and nature. His public artworks are iconic for their originality and playfulness, often creating an interruption within the space they inhabit.
In 2021, Claassen created 4 Rabbits Thinking About Carrots, The Sun and The Moon for the Wuhan Huafa City Hub in China. The series of four incredibly charming rabbits can be found perched atop buildings, staircases and public spaces, offering moments of surprise, photo opportunities and meeting spots for locals. Made in bronze and brass, the artworks’ human-scale form and cuddly aesthetic create an accessible interaction for children and adults alike.
4 Rabbits Thinking About Carrots, The Sun and The Moon was commissioned specifically for Wuhan Huafa’s new mixed-use development. UAP’s Shanghai studio and foundry worked closely with Claassen to realise these four incredible sculptural works.
