HANGZHOU, CHINA

The Moon Guides the Tide is a collection of art featuring two pieces by British artist Matt Sherratt, along with other works that contribute to the themes of the moon, the river, and peace, situated at the Qiantang River in Hangzhou, China.

CORIOLIS, by Sherratt, is inspired by the way the moon affects the tides. Made in pure white to represent the sky and clouds, this piece reflects the powerful flow of the Qiantang River. Its textured surface features hints of gold that symbolise sea foam on the waves, showcasing how the artist seamlessly blends nature with art to create peaceful spaces that balance movement and stillness.

With the help of our Qidong workshop team, Sherratt was able to create 3D-printed and forged art using stainless steel. They also applied putty to the structure before it was spray-painted. CORIOLIS received a white matte finish with gold accents in high gloss.

Together, this installation, along with HARMONY, Heartwood Tales, and Moon Tide, creates an experience that celebrates the magical blend of ancient Chinese waterways and contemporary art, transforming Hangzhou's riverbank into a serene place for reflection and renewal.
