#Heartwood Tales & River Spirits
HANGZHOU, CHINA
The Moon Guides the Tide is a collection of art featuring two pieces by British artist Matt Sherratt, alongside other works that contribute to the themes of the moon, the river, and peace, located at the Qiantang River in Hangzhou, China.
The collection wraps up with Heartwood Tales & River Spirits, crafted by our Design Manager, Pan Zhanjie, where six fairy spirits come to life as ripples spread across the river. These playful sprites—Flower, Forest, Cloud, Valley, Water, and Wind fairies—dance with nature, sharing its secrets through whimsical poetry carved into stone.
Together, this installation, along with HARMONY, CORIOLIS, and Moon Tide, creates an experience that celebrates the enchanting blend of ancient Chinese waterways and contemporary art, transforming Hangzhou's riverbank into a serene space for reflection and renewal.
After Zhanjie created the designs, we cast them in aluminium and then applied putty. We sprayed primer onto these sculptures and finished them off with spray paint.
