HANGZHOU, CHINA
The Moon Guides the Tide is a collection of art featuring two pieces by British artist Matt Sherratt, along with other works that contribute to the theme of the moon, the river, and peace, situated at the Qiantang River in Hangzhou, China.
Sherratt is renowned for his calming sculptures, and in this piece, he employs various textures and finishes to create visually engaging effects. In collaboration with our Shanghai team, Sherratt made marble with gold foil the focal point of this artwork.
Moon Tide is a striking 2.6-metre-tall sculpture that explores themes of reflection and introspection. The artwork captures the moon’s reflection on water with polished marble that shines brightly, while gold leaf details pay tribute to the beauty of Song Dynasty porcelain.
Together, this installation, along with CORIOLIS, Heartwood Tales, and HARMONY, creates an experience that celebrates the magical blend of ancient Chinese waterways and contemporary art, transforming Hangzhou's riverbank into a peaceful place for reflection and renewal.
