#Owl of Minerva

MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA

Titled ‘Anti-totalitarian Vectors’, Emily Floyd’s 2019 solo exhibition at Anna Schwartz Gallery was conceived as a compendium of typographic artefacts and propositional objects which formed a body of work dedicated to the Hungarian philosopher Ágnes Heller.

Featured within the exhibition was Floyd’s incredible Owl of Minerva, whose glowing lantern guided viewers through the installation. In Greek and Roman Mythology, the Owl of Minerva is the familiar, non-human companion of Athena or Minerva, goddess of wisdom, and serves as a symbol of knowledge and insight.

Working closely with Floyd and Anna Schwartz Gallery, UAP Australia cast and crafted The Owl of Minerva as part of the artist’s 2019 exhibition, ‘Anti-totalitarian Vectors’.
