#The Common Code

Bunny Burson is a multimedia artist whose work explores the crossroads of science, history, and politics. With a background in printmaking, she is influenced by conceptual art and takes an interest in materiality. Burson employs a variety of techniques to create art that addresses both historical and contemporary themes.
Leah Aegerter is a sculptor who utilises a mix of digital fabrication methods. Her abstract sculptures represent moments and experiences within the landscape. By employing 3D scanning, she reproduces geological surfaces in innovative materials through digital fabrication.
Together, they created ‘The Common Code' that resembles chromosomes through intricate, wireframe designs crafted in steel. These creations encapsulate how our identities are encoded, serving as a bridge between our personal narratives and the physical manifestation of digital images. This artwork embodies the elements that define us, emphasizing both our individuality and our shared humanity.
Burson and Aegerter reimagine the chromosome as a powerful metaphor for inheritance, continuity, and commonality. Their creation serves as a reminder that while each of our stories is singular, 99.9% of our genetic makeup is collectively shared. Ultimately, as highlighted by their sculpture, what brings us together is far more significant than any differences that may separate us.
