#Three Rings

SUZHOU, CHINA

Daniel Templeman’s site specific work Three Rings for the new Suzhou Olympic Sports Centre in Suzhou, China is another successful collaboration between the Australian artist and UAP. The work showcases Templeman’s signature exploration of formal geometries, creating an optical experience that questions the relationships between vision and movement, form and space.

Three Rings is the artist’s second and largest public art commission in China to date. Designed as a visual marker for the newly developed public sports and park facility, the work attracts pedestrian traffic and is visible from multiple locations within the zone. UAP worked with Templeman to develop, construct and install the artwork which was fabricated in painted stainless steel and stands at 15 metres tall.

We delivered another two works for the Suzhou Olympic Sports Centre, Stephen Ormandy's The Family and Richard Sweeney's Swift.

Three Rings aims to encourage ambiguities between vision and movement, internal and external space, complex parallax and simple geometry. Rather than a series of unrelated vectors, each ring ‘moves’ along a regular form. While ambiguity is not unintelligible, it is elusive, presenting a series of impressions.
