Lindy Lee

UAP is delighted to have delivered Australian contemporary artist Lindy Lee’s latest artwork, The Birth of Infinite Constellations.

Working in close collaboration with the artist, Sullivan and Strumpf and Off Society, this work was commissioned by Artizon Museum, Tokyo

A crucial aspect of Lindy Lee's creations lies in their dynamic shadow life, an existence that transcends the physical form of the sculpture. For a short period at pre-dawn, a special warm light illuminates from the inner egg within the torus form. The light symbolises brooding and gestation.

As evening falls, the works are illuminated from within and light spills through enlarged apertures, breathing life into its environment as the internal light projects shadows on its surroundings. The light, transforming the sculptures which shift between solidity and radiance, revealing a smaller cast ovoid form nestled within the larger torus and allowing viewers to see the intricate patterns on both sides of the sculpture simultaneously.

Despite being crafted from solid metal, the artwork radiates a sense of lightness and vibrancy, embodying a spirit that flows in and out of the world through light and shadow. Lee skillfully uses these contrasting elements to evoke a continuous sense of movement between presence and absence, form and dissolution, inviting viewers to engage with the work on multiple levels.

Our Brisbane team helped Lee create this work which consists of two forms; a tall ovoid rising to 3.4 meters and a circular torus measuring 2 meters in diameter. Made from mirror-polished, cast stainless steel, the fabrication of this work demanded rigorous welding, hand plasma cut apertures and an exceptional level of finishing to achieve its mirror-polished surface.
