Okuda San Miguel

Artist Okuda San Miguel draws inspiration from traditional landscape painting. The calm water, surrounded by mountains, the squirrels on top of the mountains, and the birds together form a landscape that greets visitors from all directions in a friendly manner. Throughout the artist's oeuvre, animals and humans share a multicoloured skin that represents the artist's highest hopes for equality, diversity and peaceful coexistence among all beings.

In this work, the artist investigates man's relationship with nature, highlighting the importance of striking a harmonious balance between the natural world and our own.

We discover a squirrel holding a golden egg, an auspicious symbol of hard work and dedication guided by one's ambitions. However, the artist quickly points out that the squirrel's feet are firmly planted on the ground; the mountaintop, a symbol of achievement, reminds us that our dreams need a solid foundation to grow.

Universal Connection is the second time that artist Okuda San Miguel and UAP Shanghai have collaborated on a permanent art installation. Okuda's distinctive style of geometric harmonies emboldened with intense colours make his artworks feel like they're from a parallel universe.
